Wast Water, Lake District, England

WAST WATER, LAKE DISTRICT, ENGLAND

At 3 miles long and 258 feet deep, Wast Water is England's deepest lake. Ringing the lake is a panorama of majestic mountains that includes Sca Fell, England's highest mountain. With Great Gable in the centre, Kirk Fell on the left and Lingmell to the right, its little wonder that the Lake District National Park Service make symbolic use of Wast Water in their logo. Also of dramatic impact in the Print are the Water Screes, a crumbling 1500-foot high vertical wall of rock dropping straight into the lake's south-eastern shore. Red tinted bands of iron laden rock add colour to the unstable black rock.
